KANDŌ NUTRITION

Anna Thomson BSc. (Hons), mBANT, rCNHC, NCFED

Hi there and welcome

I am a registered Nutritional Therapist and health coach, working with disordered, emotional and selective eating. I'm a full member of BANT, the professional body for nutritional therapy, and registered with the CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council). I hold a Master Practitioner qualification in Eating Disorders and Obesity, approved by the British Psychological Society (BPS).

I work with people who feel stuck in a difficult relationship with food, whether that's disordered or emotional eating, or selective or avoidant eating. I also work with parents supporting a child through these challenges.

There can be a huge difference between knowing and doing. I fully understand the gap between intention and action. We will work collaboratively to create a path forward. Regular sessions provide structure, keep you engaged in the process, and hold you accountable.

I have been told I am very 'zen'. I bring a calm, gentle and supportive presence to sessions and always aim to meet you where you are. I act as your coach, guide and mentor, offering a listening ear and, sometimes, gentle challenge.

Using my eating disorder training as a foundation, I integrate Intuitive Eating and Mindful Eating along with insights from additional training in neurodiversity, ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), emotional eating and counselling skills to offer a clear, practical, action-focused way of working that is trauma- and neurodiversity-informed

Anna Thomson, Nutritional Therapist and Nourishing Families CIC founder

Alongside my private practice, I founded Nourishing Families CIC, a social enterprise delivering evidence-based nutrition, cooking and behaviour change programmes in schools and community settings for parents and children. I also worked as Nutrition for Wellbeing Lead at the National Centre for Integrative Medicine for three years and currently practise as a nutritional therapist for Wellness Cloud, an employee wellbeing platform.

My family is Anglo-Japanese, so our mealtimes are a mix of cuisines and languages.

What does KANDŌ mean?

感動 Kandō (kan doh) is a Japanese word meaning to be deeply moved, excited or inspired. This is how I hope you will feel when you start working on your relationship with food and eating behaviours to nurture yourself and support your health and wellbeing.

The name comes from time I spent living and working in Japan, first in my 20s as an English teacher and later with my family managing a traditional guesthouse in rural Kyoto. During those years, I became deeply interested in Japanese food culture, community, and the many ways people relate to eating. That curiosity continues to shape how I work today
